Leash Reactivity refers to dogs who have difficulties controlling their emotions in the presence of other dogs, animals or people while on leashed walks. It is a complex behaviour challenge and can be characterized by behaviours such as lunging, growling, and barking. It is important to remember that these are symptoms of the problem; they are not the problem itself. When working our dogs through reactivity challenges, we work to address the underlying cause of these behaviours.
In a sense, these behaviours can be good things to see. They let us know that there is something emotional happening in our dogs. It is important not to punish these behaviours. Although punishing a growl may make it go away, without addressing the reason for the growl all we are really doing is removing the warning system. It is like taking the batteries out of the smoke detector.
These programs are designed for dogs who are experiencing these challenges. Using the most up-to-date science and behaviour modification techniques, dogs will build a solid foundation of attention work and will develop coping strategies to help move through trigger situations. Guardians will gain a deep understanding of their dog's behaviour and will learn management and behaviour modification skills to continue to progress their dogs forward throughout life. Handlers must be 18 years or older.
Equipment requirements: Approved harness (Ruffwear, Perfect Fit, Rabbitgoo, Freedom Harness, Balance Harness, etc.) and 6 foot leash. Retractable leashes, choke chains, slip leads, limited slip collars and martingale collars are not permitted for use in this program.

"I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about Dogwit's Leash Reactivity program. My dog has leash reactivity/leash aggression and I had absolutely no idea how to handle it. This made walks extremely stressful for me and him, and made it very hard to want to walk my dog- I actually dreaded doing it. I decided it was finally time to tackle this and found Dogwit's program and WOW- the difference in my dog is night and day. Drae teaches dog guardians proper tools on what to do in a reactive situation, and allows you and your dog to practice these tools in a calm and controlled environment. My dog and I now go on multiple walks a day, stress free and no reactivity. If you’re that person who has to walk your dog at quiet hours, or needs to hide behind parked cars when you see another dog approaching, or just feel defeated when it comes to your dog's reactivity this program is for you, you will not regret it! Thank you Drae!!"
