Adventure Dog: Group Hikes
These adventure walks are designed to help you and your dog explore and enjoy our beautiful environment! You will join one of our certified instructors on a group hike in the city or a longer hike outside of the city limits. City hikes run approximately 90 minutes, hikes outside of the city limits will require driving and will run 3+ hours and have time for food and water breaks. This is a great opportunity to learn how to safely hike with your dog, to meet other dog families in our city and to revel in the beauty of our land!
$25* 90 minute hike
$50* 3+ hour hike
Dogs must be at least 5 months of age, and be up to date on vaccinations or titre testing. Flea and tick prevention is recommended - the ticks are out early this year! Handlers must be 18 years or older. Children are welcome to come on the hikes but please check with us to ensure the hike you choose is appropriate for their age and skill level. Register Here.
June 4th 10am Split Rock (approx 90 minutes)
This city hike heads East along the top of a ridge. With lots of Alberta foliage, this area is reminiscent of wild Alberta prairie. Along this paved path there are bikers, runners, walkers and dogs. There is a wide expanse of grass on either side of the path should your dog need a bit more room to work through any of the excitement. Up above, airplanes come pretty close to land at the airport and down to our left is the winding Nose Creek. We will defend and cut back the way we came along the bottom of the valley, following the valley. There are lots of little bridges that cross back and forth over Nose Creek and a couple opportunities to dip a dogs toes into the water. This will be a nice cool off on a hot day. Again down along this path there is ample space for a dog to step off the path if they need to let a bigger distraction pass. There are lots of birds in this area, some of them dart around the air, some brave ones sit on fence posts and the ducks splash in the slower moving water. Nearing the end of the walk we come across 'Split Rock'. This large erratic was once part of the same erratic train that dropped the Big Rock in Okotoks! It is a great place for a photoshoot and a break.
